Mission Statement

The Syracuse Community Hebrew School will provide high quality Hebrew Education to prepare students for Jewish Life in synagogue and at home. The school will foster a sense of Jewish community throughout the Greater Syracuse area. The school will engage students, in grades 3-7, of all abilities and levels in a creative learning environment.

Temple Adath Yeshurun, Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas, and Temple Concord are announcing an opening for Education Director of the Syracuse Community Hebrew School (SCHS).

SCHS, a joint venture between one Reform and two Conservative synagogues, provides a dynamic, high-quality program of liturgical Hebrew education to students in grades 3-7 once a week, and helps build a sense of community among Jewish children throughout the greater Syracuse area. The school focuses on excellence in teaching standards, curriculum, and an environment that engages all children.

SCHS is seeking an innovative educational leader to guide the school through a successful third year and beyond. The part-time Education Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining the school’s curriculum, supervising teachers and other staff, providing for the day-to-day administration of the school, and communicating regularly with families, the SCHS Board of Directors, and other area Jewish educators. Candidates should be highly motivated, flexible, technologically savvy, and possess a collaborative spirit. Candidates must have experience in Hebrew education and familiarity with prayer curriculum. The ideal candidate will have a Masters Degree in education, preferably Jewish education, and/or equivalent experience.
